Day 168

Deuteronomy 15:

Many of the laws of the Lord were designed by Him to bring about a righteous and generous system of interaction between the people whom He refers to as His Children.  One of the big issues which leads to much sorrow is the issue of debt and being under bondage to another individual for an extended period of time.  This chapter sets up a limit upon debts to seven years and if it is employed then there is an opportunity to start afresh.  Long term debt sets up long term difficulty and when times get difficult, one debt can lead into another.  The Lord wanted His people free, He had gone to great lengths to achieve that, He did not want them in bondage to each other…the same is true for us.  We need to be wise and prudent in our financial worlds so that we do not become enslaved to debt and despair.

1 Corinthians 8:

Paul makes it very clear…we have liberty, we are free, we do not have to answer to any man but directly to the Lord.  But we must be careful not to allow our liberty to become a motivator for sin or for actions which compromise the conscience of our brothers and sisters.  Idols are nothing in reality but if individuals believe in their influence and are afraid of eating food offered to them then you must make certain that your personal freedom does not impinge upon their freedom.  The thought to remember is that everything we do should build up and develop those around us at all times…anything less than that has been corrupted.  We are made of the best stuff possible and so our lives should always be a blessing.
